STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

The Statement of Problem is developed by the designer with the client and briefly indicates the general scope of the design project being undertaken. The following information should be included in the Statement of Problem:

SAMPLE:

To design a robot for Automated Systems Corporation, an materials handling firm owned by Mr. Super Visor of Lincolnshire, Illinois. The product is to improve the packaging of assorted sizes of personalized notepads; and should be constructed of lightweight materials and standard parts. The facility is located in the Stevenson Industrial Park on the southeast corner of Port Clinton and Prairie Roads. The final cost of the product is not to exceed $20,000 and must be completed by June 1, 2005.


DIRECTIONS: Review the information and sample above and write a Statement of Problem for the robot you wish to design during the coming school year. Be sure to select a robot you are truly interested in as you will be working on this robot for the entire year. It would be very helpful if you had someone (parent, relative, friend or employer) that you could work with on this project.

Restrictions: Robot should have at least five moving parts and be able to perform pick and place functions.
