The "Floor Plan Sketch" for a commercial structure is a horizontal, fully sectioned, top view sketch that is laid out at a scale of 1/4"=1'-0" (1/48 size). This plan is the basis for all of the other plans (foundation, elevations, sections and mechanicals) and is created as if the roof was removed and the walls were cut at a height of 48" above the floor. This plan shows:

• the layout of exterior and interior walls
• the locations of windows and doors
• the placement of bathroom fixtures
• the placement of kitchen and laundry appliances
• the placement of mechanical equipment
• the location of stairways and elevators
• the placement of built-in cabinetry
• the names of rooms
• the direction of stairways
