You Can Create Mailing Labels Using the ClarisWorks Assistant

After you have entered the names and addresses in the database, you can use the information in any number of ways. One convenient use of the database is to print mailing labels so you do not have to individually address each envelope. When you first create a database, it has just one layout or screen appearance. You can have several different views, or layouts, of the same information. In this tutorial, you'll create another layout to see and print your information in label format. You will use the Create Labels Assistant to create the label layout and save time.

  1. From right side of the menu bar, click and hold on the help symbol () or from the Help menu, choose ClarisWorks Assistants....

  2. From Select Assistant dialog box, double-click Create Labels. Click Next.

  3. Since you will choose from list of Avery labels. click Next. ClarisWorks offers a wide choice of commercially available Avery labels from which to choose.

  4. From label pop-up menu, choose Avery 5160,5260,5660. Click Next.

  5. Click OK to acknowledge that your printer cannot print to edge of labels.

  6. Click Next to create four lines per label.

  7. To select database fields for each line in label, from first Line 1 pop-up menu, choose Name. From first Line 2 pop-up menu, choose Company. From first Line 3 pop-up menu, choose Address. From first Line 4 pop-up menu, choose City. From second Line 4 pop-up menu, choose State. From third Line 4 popup menu, choose Zip Code.

  8. To add a character (such as a comma) between City and State fields, click box between pop-up menus containing City and State to insert cursor. Type a comma and a space. Special Note: If you are using ClarisWorks Version 5, you must also type the space between the fields (between State and Zip) Click Next.

  9. From Font pop-up menu, choose Times. From Size pop-up menu, choose 12. From Style pop-up menu, choose Italic. Click Next.

  10. Optional: Type "Labels-Avery 5160" to name new layout. Click Next.

  11. Click Create. Click OK to be sure to select "Larger Print Area" in Page Setup before printing.

  12. Choose View-Page View (Command-Shift-P) to see how labels will look when printed.

  13. Choose Layout-Layout 1 to return to your first layout.
