UNIT 10 - SPRING DESIGN DRAWINGS

I. OBJECTIVES - Upon the completion of this step, the student should be able to:

A. Describe the basic principle of a "Spring";
B. Describe the basic classifications of "Springs";
C. Define "Spring" terminology;
D. Prepare "Spring drawings" for both "helical" and flat spring classifications
E. Explain the purpose of a "Required Spring Data";
F. Prepare section view drawings of selected types of "Springs";

III. ASSIGNMENTS - The following list of activities and problems will help you understand the objectives for this step and provide practical applications to help you acquire the skills needed to continue with the next step:

A. Review and answer the Study Questions for Step 10.

B. Complete a Division Sheet for Step 10. Include the title of the step, step number, your name, and draw a "Displacement Diagram" for a cam with a 2" rise and a uniform velocity. See Sample.

C. Prepare a "Compression Spring" layout drawing acording to the directions in your test book for Problem # 14-1 (Page 517). Complete the drawing using your VectorWorks software on an 11x17 ("B") sized page, and submit for grading. (25 pts)

D. Prepare a "Compression Spring" layout drawing acording to the directions in your test book for Problem # 14-2 (Page 517). Complete the drawing using your VectorWorks software on an 11x17 ("B") sized page, and submit for grading. (25 pts)

E. Prepare a "Extension Spring" layout drawing acording to the directions in your test book for Problem # 14-5 (Page 519). Complete the drawing using your VectorWorks software on an 11x17 ("B") sized page, and submit for grading. (25 pts)

F. Prepare a "Torsion Spring" layout drawing acording to the directions in your test book for Problem # 14-7 (Page 520). Complete the drawing using your VectorWorks software on an 11x17 ("B") sized page, and submit for grading. (25 pts)
