STEP 4 - MODULAR FLOOR PLANS with SCHEDULES
OBJECTIVES - Upon the completion of this step the student should be able to:
- Expand a single-line scale layout of the floor plan into a modular construction plan;
- Add wall thicknesses to exterior and interior walls;
- Draw window and doors symbols properly;
- Draw heating/airconditioning, ventilation and plumbing fixtures with the aid of templates;
- Determine the placement and size of electrical panels, stairways and elevators;
- Provide the necessary dimensions for complete size description;
- Create tabular schedules for materials specified on the floor plan;
- Label the drawing properly and neatly;
- Provide an appropriate title block.

ASSIGNMENTS
- Access the "Tech Draw Server" to down load a copy of the Study Questions for Step 4. You may printout the Study Questions for Step 4 and write in the answers or you may save the file to your disk and type in the answers using Claris Works.
- Complete a Division Sheet for Step 4. The division sheet should have a .75" margin at the top, right side, and bottom of the page and a 1" margin at the left side of the page. Be sure to include the title of the step in large letters (.75" h. x .5" w.) centered at top of page; the step number in medium letters (.5" h. x .4." w.) in the lower right corner of page; and your name in small letters (.25" h. x .2" w.) in the lower left corner of page. Illustrate an example of a Modular Floor Plan showing ONLY the exterior walls and "modular grid" lines. DO NOT show interior walls, windows, doors, fixtures or built-ins. SEE EXAMPLE.
- Using the CAD system and your "Floor Plan" sketches from your "Presentation Drawing", layout a full size "Modular Floor Plan" for your building. The "Modular Floor Plan" should include:
Wall thicknesses
Elevator locations
Stairway locations
Mechanical chases
Modular grid lines and values
- Using a copy of your "Modular Floor Plan", prepare a detailed "Floor Plan" for your building. Utilize the Floor Plan Grading Sheet to check your work. The "Detailed Floor Plan" should include:
Interior walls
Doors and windows
Fixtures and appliances
Dimensions
Heating/ventilation units
Electrical panels
Room Labels
Modular Grid lines
LOGO and Title Information
- Complete the Parking Lot Worksheet Assignment, and prepare a complete parking lot for your structure. The Parking Lot should include:
Parking Lot stalls
Handicapped parking and exit space
Pedestrian walkways
Snow storage
Proper lighting
Ample landscaping
Shipping/Receiving area
- Prepare "Window & Door Schedule" for your building. EXTRA CREDIT. See SAMPLE. The Schedules should include:
Identification symbols
Type of unit
Size of unit (width & height plus thickness or jamb size)
Brand name or manufacturer
Model name and/or number
Materials
Glazing
Finish
Quantities
Remarks
