STEP 3 - PROPOSAL AND PRESENTATION SKETCHES
OBJECTIVES - Upon the completion of this step, the student should be able to:
- Study the "Area Diagram" and arrange room sketches into a freehand "Preliminary Floor Plan Sketch" of a small commercial building;
- Complete a "Traffic Study" of the "Preliminary Floor Plan" and identify good and bad aspects of the proposed plan;
- Prepare a "Final Floor Plan Sketch" from the "Preliminary Floor Plan Sketch" of a small commercial building;
- Prepare a "Two-point Perspective Sketch" of the exterior views of a small commercial building;
- Prepare a "Presentation Sketch" showing the layout and exterior views of a small commercial building;
REFERENCES - The following list contains textbooks, reference books, pamphlets, audio-visuals, and hand-out sheets that will help you learn about this step:

ASSIGNMENTS - The following list of activities and problems will help you understand the objectives for this step and provide practical applications to help you acquire the skills needed to continue with the next step:
- Access the "Tech Draw Server" to down load a copy of the Study Questions for Step 3 .You may printout the Study Questions for Step 3 and write in the answers or you may save the file to your disk and type in the answers using Claris Works.
- Complete a Division Sheet for Step 3. The division sheet should have a .75" margin at the top, right side, and bottom of the page and a 1" margin at the left side of the page. Be sure to include the title of the step in large letters (.75" h. x .5" w.) centered at top of page; the step number in medium letters (.5" h. x .4." w.) in the lower right corner of page; and your name in small letters (.25" h. x .2" w.) in the lower left corner of page. Illustrate an example of a "Room Interior Sketch" for a commercial building. Show doors, windows and furnishings for the room. See Sample.
- Refer to the "Area Diagrams" you prepared in Step 2 and using the room cutouts you created in Step 2, develop a freehand "Preliminary Floor Plan Sketch" of your commercial building;
- Refer to your "Preliminary Floor Plan Sketch" and prepare a freehand "Preliminary Front Elevation Sketch" of your Commercial building,
- Refer to the "Traffic Study" worksheet and complete a "Traffic Study" for the "Preliminary Floor Plan Sketch" of your commercial building;
- Revise the "Preliminary Layout" sketch to reduce or eliminate problem areas identified in the "Traffic Study" and prepare a "Final Floor Plan Sketch" of your commercial building.
- Refer to the "Unit #3 Grading Rubric" and complete an proper "Presentation Floor Plan" for grading. Floor Plan should include single line walls, square footage, room labels, generic window locations, built-in cabinetry and appliances, stairways, etc. AND be mounted in some manner (cardboard, chipboard, or foam core) and be representative of the company making the presentation.
- EXTRA CREDIT: There are several drawings that can be completed as part of your presentation for extra credit; a furnished floor plan, rendered or sketched front elevation, rendered or sketched exterior perspective, landscape/plot plan, or any other rendering or sketch (after approval of instructor) See the "Unit #3 Grading Rubric" for more details on points per drawing.
